IHC dismisses plea against removal of barricades outside ISI HQ

ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad High Court (IHC) division bench dismissed an intra-court appeal (ICA) on Tuesday filed by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) pertaining to the removal of barricades on the road outside the Inter-Services Intelligence’s (ISI) headquarters.

Earlier on June 22, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui had ordered the removal of barricades within a week.

The judge had remarked, “Neither the Capital Development Authority (CDA) board passed any resolution nor any formal permission has been accorded.”

MOD counsel, advocate Khurram Hashmi, said in court that the spy agency faced security threats and several of its offices in various cities had come under attack during the last few years.

The advocate had claimed that the ISI had closed a portion of the road after CDA’s consent.

Earlier, the order to remove the barricades read, “If some security measures are required to be taken, the intelligence agency may take within its own territorial boundaries and not on the public place belonging to citizens.”
