–Dr Nauman holds charge as managing director of state channel for just a few hours
ISLAMABAD: Hours after the appointment of Dr Nauman Niaz as the managing director (MD) of Pakistan Television (PTV), the order was ‘held in abeyance’ on the same day until further notice.
A notification released by the Ministry of Information announced on Wednesday that Dr Nauman will take charge as the PTV MD with immediate effect.
“Dr Nauman Niaz (T.I.) has been appointed as Managing Director, Pakistan Television Corporation,” the official Twitter handle of PTV News said.
However, the order was halted only after a few hours and PTV News had to delete its tweet. The Ministry of Information quickly withheld the appointment and said, “The order of the look after charge of MD, PTVC assigned to Dr Numaz Niaz, Director Sports/Syndication is held in abeyance with immediate effect and till further orders.”
INTERNAL RIFT:
According to media reports, a rift erupted between former PTV MD Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera and Information Secretary Arshad Mirza on the issue of appointment which resulted in utter confusion. Sukhera, the former information secretary, appointed Dr Nauman as managing direction of the state channel before stepping down from his position, however, Mirza quickly withdrew the orders upon taking charge as the new information secretary, they added.
Rumours claimed that there are personal grievances between the two officials over the issue. While the ex-information secretary wanted Dr Nauman to become PTV MD, the newly-appointed information secretary objected from the decision and removed him from the position straight away.
Dr Nauman has been the host of PTV Sports programme “Game On Hai” for several years. He has invited several national and international sportsmen in his show.
He is a renowned cricket correspondent, historian, writer, and anchorperson. Dr Nauman also served as media coordinator and the media manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) during the 1990s.
