ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Wednesday said that he would file a petition against the verdict of appellate election tribunal which was his constitutional right.

According to article 62, 63, the election tribunal is not authorised to disqualify any politician and that his disqualification would be challenged in the court, he said talking to a private news channel.

He said that such decisions were making elections controversial and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should take notice of the matters. He added, “I had submitted affidavit and asset form with the election commission and nothing was concealed in that regard.”

He also said that the election tribunal had used derogatory language against him in the judgment that hurt him. Tribunal was only authorised to reject nomination papers of any candidate, he added.

Abbasi said that he would contest the election and defeat the opponent with a huge margin. He was elected eight times as Member National Assembly (MNA) and declared all assets with the ECP, he said.

He also said boycott from the election was not in national interest.
