LAHORE: The provincial capital and several adjoining areas on Tuesday received the much-needed rainfall that broke the persisting spell of heat across central Punjab.

Scattered thunderstorms in Lahore, lashed Airport Road, Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Shimla Pahari, Garhi Shahu, Johar Town, Walton, Defence and other areas.

Traffic in the city came to a standstill due to rain amid which motorcyclists, as well as pedestrians, were seen facing difficulties. Most of them had taken shelter on main roads that badly affected the flow of traffic.

A roof collapse incident in the Sabzazar area of the city was also reported, in which at least three people were injured.

Meanwhile, at least 50 of LESCO’s feeders were reported to have tripped, resulting in power supply suspension in several parts of the city.

Met office has said the spell of rain would continue for at least three days and intermittent rain was expected at isolated places in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Kashmir and areas of FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan.

Heavy downpours may trigger flash flooding and landslides, Met office has warned.
