ISLAMABAD: The international community and the United Nations need to play their due role in finding a just solution to the lingering Kashmir dispute according to the aspirations of its people, said Foreign Office Spokesperson Mohammad Faisal while speaking at a condolence reference for Kashmiri journalist Shujaat Bukhari in Islamabad.

During the event held at the National Press Club, Faisal lauded the courage of the slain journalist and expressed hope that his supreme sacrifice, to highlight the truth, despite all odds, would not go in vain.

Senior journalist and editor-in-chief of English daily Rising Kashmir Shujaat Bukhari was shot dead by militants outside his office on June 14 in Srinagar.

The event was also attended by Azad Jammu Kashmir President Masood Ahmed Khan, Kashmiri leader Mashaal Malik and senior journalists. The speakers paid rich tribute to those who lost lives in their struggle for freedom from the Indian occupational forces and strongly condemned the brutal repression by the Indian army. They said that the efforts to muzzle his voice against the Indian brutalities would yield no result.

The speakers said that late Shujaat Bukhari was punished for raising his voice against the extrajudicial killings of unarmed youth of Kashmir who were striving hard for their right to self-determination.

The forum paid rich tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs who have risen against the forces of repression and said their sacrifices would not go in vain.
