Sonam Kapoor hopes to direct a film by 2020

While a number of female stars, including Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Chitrangda Singh, have turned to production, actor and diva Sonam K Ahuja is all set to take a different route.

Speaking to Hindustan Times Kapoor revealed that she will be soon taking the director’s seat.

“I have found a couple of scripts. They are mostly ready, but it will still take a little time to work on them and finalise them. I think I am going to do something [with regard to directing a film] in a year or two,” says the actor.

When asked when her directorial debut would hit the screens she responded, “One half of 2018 is already over. That’s why I feel it should happen in another one-and-a-half to two years. I intend to continue acting and direct as well — not in the same film, but at the same time. So let’s see how things go,”

Sonam added that all the directors that she has worked with so far have also encouraged her to take up direction.

“Be it Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Aanand L Rai, R Balki or Ram Madhvani — any director that I work with has told me, ‘Please direct [a film]’.”

Sonam previously assisted director Sanjay Bhansali on his award-winning film Black which released in 2005. The film starred Rani Mukherjee and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles.

2018 has been a rollercoaster year for the actress. Her year started with the release on PadMan alongside Akshay Kumar. She then tied the knot with long-time beau, businessman Anand Ahuja in early May, immediately after which she headed to the Cannes Film Festival for her annual appearance as Loreal’s representative. That was followed by the release of her film Veere Di Wedding which received a lot of hype for its plot surrounding female friendships.

Sonam also has a packed schedule ahead of her. She is all set to be part of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, in which she will be sharing screen space with her father veteran actor Anil Kapoor for the first time; The Zoya Factor and Battle for Bittora.

“I’m also reading a lot of scripts since I have dates for another film around the end of this year, so I am looking for that movie. But from now on, I have decided to do two films a year as more than that will be a bit too much to handle,” she says.

Sonam is currently enjoying downtime in London with her husband and friends.
