–Maryam says mother’s health, not polls, her priority
LONDON: Deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that his wife Kulsoom Nawaz’s condition is deteriorating in the hospital due to fever and infection.
The former premier was speaking to journalists about his ailing wife returning from the Harley Clinic. He said that the medical condition of his wife was not improving.
He said, “Doctors are trying their best but everything is in Allah’s hands, if Allah wills then everything can get fine within a second.”
Nawaz prayed that everyone who is ailing like Kulsoom gets well soon.
MOTHER’S HEALTH PRIORITY:
While responding to a question about the arrest of PML-N candidate Qamarul Islam against Chaudhry Nisar for NA-59, Nawaz said that he is upset. “I will get more information about his arrest,” said Nawaz.
Meanwhile, ex-premier’s daughter Maryam Nawaz said that her mother’s health is her top priority and that she isn’t thinking about politics or the upcoming elections.
While speaking to the media outside the Harley Street Clinic in London, Maryam said, “There are certain moments in your life where you have to leave everything to tend to your responsibilities. Some relations come above everything else.”
“As soon as my mother is better, I will depart for Pakistan,” she said, adding that there will be time for elections later on, but for now [her] prime importance is Kulsoom’s well being.
When asked how the family would react if the accountability court denies an exemption from court hearings henceforth, Maryam said, “Yeh waqt bhi guzar jayega [this too shall pass], adding “we will remember who played what role throughout the painful process”.
Dismissing rumours that the family will flee the pending proceedings, Maryam said that “both of us will return to Pakistan as soon as my mother is better”.
SHARIFS POSTPONE RETURN:
On the advice of the doctors, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz have postponed their return to Pakistan early Sunday for the time being.
The decision was taken after a two-hour meeting between Nawaz, Maryam, Hussain and Kulsoom’s doctors at Harley Street Clinic. The doctors, however, have said that they cannot give a timeframe of the progress of Kulsoom’s health. The doctors advised Nawaz to spend more time with his wife, reports said.
On June 14, Begum Kulsoom was shifted to the hospital’s ICU after she suffered a cardiac arrest and has been on life support since. Nawaz and Maryam were granted a four-day exemption from appearing in personal capacity before the accountability court in corruption cases.
THROAT CANCER:
Begum Kulsoom underwent multiple surgeries in 2017 to remove diseased lymph nodes after she was diagnosed with throat cancer.
In April, her medical reports indicated that her health had worsened after her throat cancer began to spread to the rest of her body.
On May 25, her health was said to have improved briefly, before it deteriorated again on Wednesday.
On June 7, Nawaz and Maryam had sought a five-day exemption from their appearance before the accountability court in the corruption references against the Sharif family.
