Former federal minister Sikander Hayat Bosan was barred from entering his own constituency by angry voters for a campaign visit over the weekend.

In a viral video on social media, the former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader can be seen struggling to placate the ex-supporters who surrounded his vehicle. They demanded him to explain why he sought their votes.

The constituents claimed that the ex-PML-N leader, now in PTI, never visited the Multan constituency of NA-154 during his five years in the lower house.

The protesters also chanted slogans, accusing Bosan, who served as minister for national food security and research in former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s cabinet from August 2017 to May 2018, of being a ‘turncoat’ and ‘thief’.

The seasoned politician had a brief stint with PTI ahead of 2013 general elections as he waited for PML-N to act. After serving as MNA for the Nawaz-led party, Bosan has recently joined PTI and reportedly got a ticket to contest for NA-154.

His candidature has brought severe backlash from PTI workers who expressed their concerns in a demonstration outside Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence last week.

Bosan, one of the most powerful politicians from Multan, defeated former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in 1997 elections.
