PTI’s Qureshi owns assets worth over Rs283 million

MULTAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi owns assets worth Rs283.6 million, stated nomination papers submitted by him to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

With a £88,000 held in a bank account in London and two plots in Bahawalpur under his ownership, Qureshi is set to contest the upcoming general elections from Khanewal’s NA-156.

Qureshi also owns jewellery worth Rs7m and he uses furniture worth Rs2m. He uses four vehicles valued at Rs19.4m. He owns two houses in Multan, an apartment in Islamabad and one house in Lahore.

His wife, on the other hand, owns two plots in Bahawalpur and a 6.5 marla plot in Multan gifted to her by Qureshi. Besides, she also has more than £26,000 stored in her foreign bank account. She also possesses prize bonds worth Rs50.5m.

Ex-Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stalwart Qureshi was the foreign minister between 2008-2011 when he left and joined PTI. Hazrat Ghous Bahauddin Zakariya’s shrine in Multan is under his custodianship as well.

ASSETS REVEALED:

Meanwhile, Awami Raj Party chief Jamshed Dasti emerges as the poorest candidate contesting elections as affidavit attached with his nomination papers, filed with ECP for NA-182, claim that the politician has no assets. There is no plot or vehicle registered in his name, he claimed.

Dasti is contesting on six national assembly seats and one provincial assembly seat.

Similarly, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan chief Sirajul Haq has declared the total value of his assets at only Rs2.9 million. He has a little more than Rs1.8 million in his three bank accounts and does not own a personal car or any property outside Pakistan. According to the JI chief’s papers, he has never been a loan/debt defaulter.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan submitted details of his assets to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) according to which his assets are worth more than Rs3.8 million.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former federal minister Khawaja Saad Rafique owns assets worth more than Rs178.413 million.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, and his two wives’ —Nusrat and Tehmina Durrani— cumulative assets have been valued at Rs389 million, according to the details shared with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

However, one man who seems to be on the top is a private candidate from Muzaffargarh.

Muhammad Hussain alias Munna Sheikh from NA-182 Muzaffargarh claimed ownership of 350 acres of land, three houses and various other household appliances which he said amount to a total of worth Rs 403 billion.

Hussain said that he has revealed his assets with complete honesty, despite not paying any taxes.
