Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday began his electoral campaign from his home constituency of NA-57, Murree.
While addressing a rally in Kahutam the former premier appreciated party’s supremo Nawaz Sharif and his government for undertaking various development projects across the country.
However, prior to the rally, residents protested against the former prime minister for not working for the progress of the constituency as stated in the previous election campaign. The disgruntled supporters also chanted slogans of “Go Khaqan Go” while encircling his motorcade when he entered the area to address the political gathering.
Earlier on Friday, the former prime minister had moved the appellate tribunal against the rejection of his candidacy for Islamabad’s NA-53 constituency.
On June 19, the returning officer (RO) for NA-53 had rejected the nomination papers of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, former federal minister and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor Mehtab Abbasi and estranged PTI leader Ayesha Gulalai for “failing to properly fill out the affidavit attached with the nomination papers”.
