MUZAFFARGARH: An independent candidate from Muzaffargarh has claimed in his nomination papers that he owns assets worth Rs 403 billion, and that he has never paid taxes.

In his affidavit, Muhammad Hussain alias Munna Sheikh from NA-182 Muzaffargarh claimed ownership of 350 acres of land, three houses and various other household appliances.

Hussain said that he has revealed his assets with complete honesty, despite not paying any taxes.

Speaking to a local English daily, he claimed that he owns land comprising almost 40 per cent of Muzaffargarh city as well as the Lang Malana, Taliri, Chak Taliri and Latkaran areas.

Though the land had been disputed in past, a Supreme Court bench, comprising the chief justice, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Umar Atta Bandial, recently gave the verdict in his favour. He further said that the land owned by him was worth approximately Rs403.11 billion.

The political leaders have submitted their nomination papers in the ECP which are scrutinised. The political leaders are required to reveal their assets and sources of income in the nomination papers.

The declared value of assets of several politicians, including Imran Khan, Aleem Khan, Maryam Nawaz, Shehbaz Sharif, Khawaja Saad Rafique etc have come off as a surprise to many as some were too low and some were too high.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) Hamza Shehbaz also declared his assets worth Rs410 million, making him richer than his father, former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The general elections 2018 are scheduled to be held on July 25.
