Senior Congress politician Saifuddin Soz has said that he agrees with former Pakistani dictator General (r) Pervez Musharraf that the first choice of people of Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK) is freedom from Indian rule.

The veteran Congress leader responded about the situation in Indian occupied Kashmir stating, “Musharraf said Kashmiris don’t want to merge with Pakistan, their first choice is independence.”

The comment came days ahead of his book launch, Kashmir: Glimpses of History and the Story of Struggle.

Soz has reportedly criticised India’s use of brute force against Kashmiri freedom fighters, emphasising that there is a need to understand the mindset.

Furthermore, Soz has reportedly stated that former Indian premier Manmohan Singh was scheduled to visit Islamabad in June 2007 to meet Musharraf for a “decisive dialogue” on occupied Kashmir. However, the meeting never took place, he added.
