A police constable in Peshawar lost his life on Thursday as unknown motorcyclists opened fire on a police post in the city’s suburb of Hayatabad.
According to Peshawar police, the incident occurred at around 9:45 pm, within the jurisdiction of Hayatabad police station.
The deceased officer was later identified as Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) Constable Shah Fahad, SP Cantt Wasim Riaz told the media.
The senior police official said that the deceased was on duty and was also wearing a bulletproof jacket when the firing incident happened.
“It is early to say whether it was an act of targeted killing or not,” said SP Riaz.
Although there has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, the city of Peshawar has for decades been a victim of militancy due to its status as a frontline post for the ongoing war against terrorism as well as its proximity to the restless tribal areas and the Pak-Afghan border.
