ISLAMABAD: A false FIR [First Information Report] was registered by Turbat police under Section 302 against PTV (Pakistan Television) journalist Waleed Rind while he was in Islamabad, 1,850 km away from where the alleged incident occurred.

The PTV management said via an official letter of attendance that Waleed Rind was in Islamabad at the time the incident for which he was booked in Turbat took place. His family members also said that there is irrefutable evidence that proves Rind’s innocence. ATM transactions conducted by the journalist personally in Islamabad also show he was in the city at the time of the incident.

Rind has been working as a news editor with PTV in Islamabad since 2013. He was informed on February 13 this year when he was attempting to open a new bank account that his CNIC had been blocked by NADRA under order of session court, Turbat.

The PTV journalist immediately visited NADRA where he was informed that he had been booked under Section 302/304 in Turbat. He immediately applied for and received a protective bail from the Sindh High Court on April 4 after presenting evidence.

Waleed Rind then surrendered himself to session judge in Turbat. He was handed over to Crime Branch Quetta on May 25 by the court and is currently in custody. Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorist Act (ATA) was incorporated in the case by Crime Branch Quetta.
