The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has accepted the nomination papers of 265 candidates, including Hafiz Saeed’s son and son-in-law, who will be contesting the polls from the platform of Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek (AAT).
Hafiz Talha Saeed, Hafiz Saeed’s son, had been associated with the proscribed extremist organisation Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and son-in-law Hafiz Khalid Waleed was a member Milli Muslim League (MML).
Talking to a local English daily, MML Spokesperson Tabish Qayyum said, “Khalid Waleed and others are AAT candidates, while Talha Saeed was a JuD member.”
Qayyum also informed that Talha Saeed would contest the polls from NA-91 Sarghoda and Khalid Waleed would contest from NA-133 Lahore.
Earlier, a four-member bench of ECP had dismissed MML’s application on the basis of an interior ministry report which stated that the extreme right political party followed the hardline ideology of the banned JuD and its leader.
