KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar on Friday approached an appellate tribunal challenging the rejection of his nomination papers for NA-245 Karachi by the respective returning officer (RO).
Sattar filed an election petition before a Sindh High Court (SHC) appellate tribunal, requesting it to overturn the RO’s verdict with regard to his papers.
Speaking to reporters after filing the petition, the MQM-P leader expressed optimism that his nomination form was likely to be approved once the tribunal took up his plea.
A day earlier, the MQM-P leader obtained interim bail from a district court in two criminal cases to contest the July 25 elections.
NA- 245 RO Ahsan Khan had rejected the nomination papers of Farooq Sattar on June 19.
Khan had stated that Sattar was an absconder in two cases and the MQM-P leader had not mentioned this in his nomination papers.
However, Sattar’s counsel remarked that his client was unaware of the two cases.
Sattar had submitted nomination papers from three constituencies in Karachi, NA-241, NA-245 and NA-247, to contest the upcoming general election.
