LAHORE: PML-N leader and former speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq on Friday demanded the removal of NA-129 Returning Officer (RO) Ghulam Murtaza Uppal, alleging that the RO was close to his political rival, PTI’s Aleem Khan.
Sadiq, who is contesting from the constituency on a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket, said in a letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) chief election commissioner that the RO was allegedly biased and was supporting Khan.
The PML-N leader further claimed in the letter that he was summoned in person by the RO while his opponent was not asked to come in person until after the PML-N protested. Moreover, Sadiq claimed that the RO sent Khan back to continue “campaigning” without asking him any question while Sadiq was allegedly asked offensive and irrelevant questions.
The former speaker said that if the RO was not removed, it would be considered as pre-poll rigging.
