Pakistanis remember Benazir Bhutto on her 65th birthday

LAHORE: When Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in 2007 during a rally, the world was stunned. The former premier of Pakistan was campaigning for the upcoming elections in Liaqat Bagh in Rawalpindi when she was shot dead. The former Pakistan People’s Party chairperson was the first woman to head a democratic government in a Muslim majority nation.

June 21, 2018 marks her 65th birthday and Pakistanis are taking to Twitter to remember the late politician.

Assad Zulfikar Khan said, “Shaheed Benazir Bhutto fought against the toughest odds. Not only democrat but also as a woman and she did so with great courage. The patriarchy hated everything she stood for. Her existence proved every day that women are more than equal to men.”

Naz Baloch said, “Symbol of Courage, the pride of Pakistan, Benazir is a role model for women in politics around the world. Her resilience and unwavering commitment towards the nation for democracy throughout her life is admirable and unforgettable.”
