King Salman urges to extend Afghanistan truce

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman welcomed the Eidul Fitr truce between the Afghan government and Taliban and called for its further renewal, said a statement issued on Thursday.

The custodians of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud has followed the truce with great interest during the days of Eid-ul-Fitr, expressing his pleasure over this step and his support for it. He hopes that the truce will be renewed and built upon for a longer period so that all parties can work together to achieve peace for the Afghan people.

He added that the Afghan people have suffered the horrors of war for far too long. The Islamic world is looking forward to turning the page of the past and turning a new page based on tolerance and reconciliation, renouncing violence and preserving the lives of innocent people based on Islamic teachings that call for rejecting division, cooperating with the piety, and forgiveness among brothers.

The king has prayed to Allah Almighty to bring success to his Afghan brothers in achieving what is best for their country in addition to security and stability for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
