Charging excessive school fee amounts to contempt of court, IHC rules

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday ruled that charging an excessive fee to students by private schools counts as contempt of court.

Justice Aziz was hearing the case against private schools on Wednesday. During the course of proceedings, the judge ruled that private schools cannot charge students during the months of June and July, sustaining its earlier verdict.

“Trade of education is a sheer injustice,” Siddiqui lamented and warned that schools charging fee will be sent contempt orders.

Advocate Rashid Hanif remarked, “Are private schools teaching children to lie and misconstrue the facts?” adding that the private schools have to abide by the court order under all circumstances.

Additionally, a plea regarding non-payment of salaries to school teachers will also be reviewed during future court proceedings.

The case hearing has been adjourned till July 11.
