Caretaker set up restricted to constitutional mandate: Waqas Riaz

LAHORE: Punjab Caretaker Minister for Information Ahmed Waqas Riaz on Wednesday said that conducting free and fair elections was the prime responsibility of the caretaker government and they were restricted to their constitutional mandate.

Speaking to senior journalists he informed that process of transfers and postings against administrative posts and police ranks had been started and assured them that they would perform their duties with honesty.

‘NO FUNDS BEING HELD BACK FROM DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS’:

Meanwhile, Caretaker Minister for Finance Zia Haider Rizvi said that no funds were being held back from spending on development projects, but the caretaker set up was controlling the expenditures till election to avoid any financial resources limitations during the election process.

Chairing a meeting of Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), he appreciated PRA for being the top revenue collector agency in all four provinces and suggested the taxpayers to consider themselves as stakeholders in the government so that the standards of living of citizens could be improved.

‘LABOURERS BACKBONE OF INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS’:

Separately, Caretaker Minister for Labour Mian Nauman Kabir said that labourers were the backbone of the industrial development process and every possible step would be taken to solve problems faced by them.

Speaking to a delegation of industrialists led by Lahore Township Industrialist Association Chairman Dr Shafiq A Naqi, he said that all genuine demands of the workers of Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate would be redressed.

He also said that environment, cleanliness and other problems in the industrial estate would be resolved on a priority basis and dispensary of Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate would be upgraded besides establishing a department of gynecology for further improving the treatment facilities there.

Caretaker Minister for Industries Anjum Nisar and Minister for Environment Saeedullah Babar were also present on the occasion.
