–CM takes notice of Asiya’s killing
DERA GHAZI KHAN: Social worker Asiya Akbar on Tuesday was killed by younger sister’s father-in-law.
According to police sources, Akbar, a women’s rights activist, was travelling through van to Khanpur when two men forced her out of the vehicle and shot her at Foja Basti area of Dera Ghazi Khan. She died on the spot.
As per initial reports, the father-in-law of her younger sister, Aqsa, suspected that the social worker was ‘poisoning’ her against his family.
After 15 days of Aqsa’s marriage, Akbar brought her back to DG Khan where she had moved after tying the knot, the reports said.
“Aqsa’s father-in-law shot her on suspicion and fled the scene,” the police said.
The police, however, has mentioned that Asiya Akbar had filed a case against stating that her sister is missing. The investigations are underway and raids are being conducted to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Dr Hasan Askari took a notice of Asiya’s killing and sought a report from the Inspector General Police (IGP).
The chief minister directed an immediate arrest of those involved in the murder and added that a legal action should be initiated.
He also extended sympathies to the bereaved family and ensured that justice would be provided at every cost.
