Lavrov, Pompeo discuss Syria, North Korea

MOSCOW: Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has had a call with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to discuss Syria, North Korea and plans for future U.S.-Russian contacts.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Lavrov and Pompeo focused on the Syrian settlement and also talked Monday about “consolidating efforts to solve the problems of the Korean Peninsula.” It added that they also discussed “some aspects of bilateral relations, including the schedule of political contacts between Russia and the U.S. for the near future.”

US President Donald Trump said last week “it’s possible” he’ll meet Russian President Vladimir Putin this summer, while Putin also indicated he was ready to meet with Trump when the U.S. administration was set for a summit. The Russian leader cited Austria as a nation offering to host it.
