Eidul Fitr: Lahoris throng parks, zoo to savour last holiday

LAHORE: Maintaining the tradition of celebrating every festivity with great enthusiasm on Eidul Fitr, a large number of Lahoris on Monday came out of their houses and thronged public parks as well as other recreational places along with their families to celebrate the last Eid holiday.

Amid the fervor, a huge crowd was seen at public parks including Race Course Park, Baghe Jinnah, the Sozo Water Park, Jallo Park, Gulshane Iqbal Park, Greater Iqbal Park, Shalamar Park, Lahore Forest, the zoo and other places including eateries on second and third days of Eid.

Like previous years, Lahore Zoo remained the hub of recreation during Eid days. Due to a large number of visitors, while several people were seen facing difficulties in parking their vehicles on the third day, zoo administration, on the second day of Eid, had to close the entry gates as it was jam-packed. While all cages including those of lions, tigers, bears and snakes were the main attractions of the zoo, people were seen missing Suzi, the only elephant that died last year.

According to officials, over 200,000 people visited Lahore Zoo during the first and second days of Eid while over 50,000 visited the Safari Park located on Raiwind Road.

Besides Lahore Zoo, thousands of people took to public parks where they, along with their families, were seen enjoying their holidays. Opting to have a picnic, several families were seen enjoying home-cooked food, while others barbequed to enjoy the weather on Eid. Children could also be seen having a great time while their families took a break from their hectic routines.

Several citizens also visited the Fortress Stadium where children were seen enjoying rides at play lands while their families hit the restaurants.

On the other hand, political activities also remained in full swing as the candidates of all parties arranged Eid greeting parties in their constituencies in a bid to woo voters for the upcoming general elections.

Meanwhile, a traffic mess was witnessed on the Canal Road where bikers were seen bothering the commuters with their rash driving. A similar situation prevailed on other major roads of the city, including Jail Road, Mall Road, Multan Road, Ferozpur Road, GT Road, Allama Iqbal Road and Wahdat Road where traffic gridlocks were observed. Several clashes among commuters frustrated by traffic jams were also reported.
