CJP takes suo motu notice of non-issuance of CNICs to transgender community

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took a suo motu notice on Sunday regarding complaints pertaining to non-issuance of computerised national identity cards (CNICs) to the transgender community.

Punjab chief secretary and other authorities concerned were also ordered by the CJP to appear before the court on Monday.

Justice Nisar was apprised of the issue during his visit to Fountain House Lahore (FHL), according to a press release issued by the Supreme Court (SC).

Akhuwat Foundation’s Amjad Saqib was also instructed by the court to attend the proceedings.

Hearing of the case would be conducted at SC’s Lahore registry.
