PTI, PML-N laud ECP’s decision to deploy army on election day

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaderships on Friday welcomed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to deploy the army at polling stations on election day.

Senior politician of the PML-N Rana Sanaullah lauded the decision, explaining that the party trusts the judiciary and the army due to their reliability.

On the other hand, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said the party will share its stance on the issue after the election is conducted.

Decision to deploy the army at polling stations for the upcoming general elections was made during an ECP meeting in Islamabad on Thursday.

Over 20,000 closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) would be installed at sensitive locations, director general of ECP informed media after the meeting.

The ECP would also coordinate closely with the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) in order to prevent unwanted incidents. In addition, arrangements for foolproof security for political leaders would be made by the provinces and security for district returning officers, returning officers and presiding officers would fall under the responsibility of provincial authorities as well.
