LONDON: Health of Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former premier Nawaz Sharif, has suddenly deteriorated again and she was readmitted to the hospital, reported a private media outlet on Thursday.

According to reports, Kulsoom Nawaz was taken to the ICU where she collapsed. She was put on medical ventilator and has remained unconscious since then. Kulsoom went into cardiac arrest while the emergency team has placed her on life support machine and drugs. She is in kept under intensive care and close monitoring, they added.

Sons of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, namely Hussain Nawaz and Hasan Nawaz, asked people to pray for their mother’s wellness.

Hasan said on Friday that his mother’s vitals were stable but her life support was not removed.

“Begum Kulsoom’s vitals are stable but she is still on life support and sedated,” he said while talking to reporters.

Hasan further said, “The cardiac arrest happened when she was being monitored in the intensive care unit (ICU). There has been no internal bleeding. We are all praying for her timely recovery.”

Maryam Nawaz’s mother was experiencing increased weakness in health and was readmitted to the hospital on Wednesday. Doctors, who have been doing regular checkups of Kulsoom Nawaz, had advised that she should be hospitalised for further treatment.

Nawaz Sharif, along with daughter Maryam Nawaz, left for London earlier on Thursday to spend Eid with his ailing wife.

Kulsoom Nawaz underwent surgery in 2017 to remove diseased lymph nodes after she was diagnosed with throat cancer. In April, her medical reports indicated that her health had worsened after her throat cancer began to spread to the rest of her body.

On May 25, her health was said to have improved following medical treatment for throat cancer in London.

Nawaz and Maryam are scheduled to return to the country after spending Eid with Kulsoom Nawaz. On June 7, Nawaz and Maryam had sought a five-day exemption from appearance before accountability court in the corruption references against the Sharif family.
