5 family members butchered by unidentified people in Hazro

Five members of a family were brutally murdered in their home in Jatial village in the Hazro tehsil of Attock district, a local media outlet reported on Thursday.

According to the police, the victims, which include two women and three children, were tied up and violently attacked with a sharp weapon. The bodies of the victims were transferred to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital for post-mortem examination.

Another family member, Waseem, was also attacked; he, however, survived and was admitted to THQ for treatment. Two other children survived the attack as well.

Police started examining call records of the family’s mobile phones and began interrogating the residents of the area. The two surviving children, a boy and a girl, were unable to answer questions due to trauma, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raja Faizul Haq Naeem said that the cause behind the murders was unclear and investigations were ongoing. Naeem said that the police were waiting to receive a complaint from Waseem after which a first information report (FIR) would be filed.

Waseem and his family had been living in the area for six years and ran a barber shop, the DSP said.
