Punjab law secretary resigns as caretaker cabinet takes oath

LAHORE: Former Punjab law and parliamentary affairs secretary Dr Syed Abul Hassan Najmi resigned from his position after the Punjab interim cabinet took the oath.

Najmi had been serving in the position since October 2009 under the Shehbaz Sharif led provincial government on contractual bases.

Former secretary’s notice would expire on June 30.

 

Earlier, The Supreme Court (SC) had summoned Dr Najmi in his personal capacity on a petition, filed for his removal from the office.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Mian Saqib Nisar, passed the orders on a petition, filed by Advocate Zafar Iqbal Kalanuri.

Earlier, the petitioner-counsel questioning the appointment of Dr Najmi, submitted that he was given extension thrice in violation of the rules and regulations.
