Punjab interim cabinet without women shocks women rights activists

LAHORE: Several women rights activists were shocked to learn that not even a single woman had been taken on as a member of the Punjab interim cabinet, reported by a local media outlet.

Women rights activist Farida Shaheed said, “One-third women representation is the minimum criterion in any sector which should be implemented across the board.”

She asked, “How can you run a country without any women in the decision-making process?”

“Even though what we need is good quality people, men or women, but it is important to make an effort and reflect the diversity in the form of gender, class, and ethnic communities,” said Dr Fouzia Saeed.

Former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member of provincial assembly (MPA) said, “There should definitely have been women in the cabinet.”
