Janhvi Kapoor appears stiff in ‘Dhadak’s’ trailer

Months after the untimely death of Sri Devi which left fans devastated, the trailer of her elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor’s Bollywood debut, Dhadak has finally released and has left us with a variety of emotions.

Along with Janhvi, Dhadak also marks the Bollywood debut of Ishaan Khattar, Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother. The film, a remake of the Marathi sleeper hit, Sairat, has been directed by Shashank Khaitan of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya fame.

The trailer shows Jahnvi play the role of Parthavi, a young girl who belongs to a powerful political family. On the other hand, Ishaan essays Madhukar who hails from a middle-class background. Ishaan is madly in love with Janhvi and tries to win her over in the first part of the trailer. The second part of the trailer shows how the two are kept apart from Parthavi’s powerful and influential family. However, keeping in mind Bollywood’s age-old romance with happy endings, it is likely that the two lovers will have their own fairy tale and come together in the end.

Both Ishaan and Janhvi added a breath of fresh air to the film and the plot and their chemistry was sparkling. However, Janhvi’s performance fell a little short and she appears stiff and restrained in most of the scenes. Her acting is not as natural and fluid like her mother and neither are her expressions, however, it would be unfair to compare her to her mother considering her Sri Devi was a seasoned and established actor.

Ishaan, on the other hand, was more natural in his role and appeared more at ease as the smitten hero.

Nonetheless, the film appears interesting and one is excited to see how Bollywood’s next generation will fare.

Produced by Karan Johar, Dhadak is set to release on July 20, 2018.
