TEHRAN: Iranian semi-official Fars news agency is reporting that the country’s authorities have detained 27 suspected members of a terrorist group.
The Monday report says the group planned to commit “terrorist activities” last week in Tehran and some major cities in the country. It also said they had threatened individuals with death.
A large amount of explosives and weapons, including machine guns and grenades were confiscated. The report did not elaborate on the individuals’ affiliation.
In June 2017, five militants linked to IS stormed Iran’s parliament and a shrine to revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, killing at least 18 people and wounding more than 50. The country’s supreme court has confirmed the death sentence for eight of them.
