NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old man was arrested by Indian police from Jodhpur on Saturday for allegedly killing his seven-year-old daughter as a ‘sacrifice’ to the Almighty, the Times of India reported.
Under interrogation, Nawab Ali Qureshi confessed to killing his seven-year-old daughter named Rizwana. The child’s body was discovered on Friday with her throat slit.
On Thursday, the man took his daughter to a local market and bought her gifts, telling her how much he loved him.
According to police, during the night when the family was asleep on the terrace, the man took Rizwana to the ground floor and slit her throat while reciting holy verses.
The child’s body was discovered by her mother on Friday morning. Qureshi initially claimed that a cat may have killed his daughter but his wife registered a murder complaint against unknown individuals with the police. The police, upon investigation concluded that no one had broken into the house.
Under interrogation, Qureshi then confessed to the crime, saying that he did so as a ‘sacrifice’.
