ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Monday said that the foreign observers will be welcomed and they will be issued four to six weeks visas to observe the general elections process this year.
The decision was taken in a meeting which was chaired by ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob and attended by representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and security organisations.
The meeting was informed that directions have been issued to all departments concerned to complete the visa process of foreign observers as early as possible in accordance with the country’s laws so that they can reach here in time.
With the consultation of all departments, the timeframe for the visa of foreign observers has been fixed between four to six weeks and during that period they can observe election process at polling stations, ballot papers counting process and consolidation of results.
The meeting was informed that the preparation of the code of conduct for foreign observers is in the final stage and will be completed in coming few days.
