–Commission’s scrutiny cell concludes checking particulars of 7,500 candidates
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission has convened a meeting on Wednesday (tomorrow) to review the security arrangements especially pertaining to the security of the politicians during the forthcoming general elections.
The meeting will also discuss the security of public meetings, corner meetings, deployment of the military and the paramilitary forces, review of the situation pertaining to sensitive and most sensitive polling stations, and installation of the security cameras at the polling stations.
The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan. The administration additional secretary will give comprehensive briefing on the preparations. All provincial election commissioners will give their points of view on the elections in reference to the provincial governments.
The meeting will also chalk out a strategy and among other issues will discuss at length the entire scenario of law and order and will review the recommendations of the federal and provincial governments. Security of the polling staffers, the Election Commission buildings, ballot papers, printing press and monitoring teams will also come up for discussion.
Separately, ECP Scrutiny Cell on Monday completed the checking process of 7,500 contesting candidates’ particulars through its online scrutiny system.
According to ECP, the cell was established to facilitate the Returning Officers (ROs) for scrutiny of nomination papers of contesting candidates.
The cell comprising NADRA, FBR, NAB and State Bank of Pakistan has been working round the clock and will continue till June 14 to verify the candidates’ particulars.
The commission has said that till date, the cell has received over 12,000 nomination papers for verification. It said that dozens of particulars of the candidates had been found suspicious.
The verified records of the candidates are continuously being dispatched to the ROs throughout the country after the verification.
