KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Sunday paid a visit to Orangi Town to inspect an under-construction road in union council 14 of Bilal Colony.
He inspected the road and directed the engineers to ensure a better standard of work. He said no work was done in Orangi for the last 25 to 30 years. The area is facing a shortage of water supply and its people are suffering as a result, he said.
He said besides construction of road, sewerage system was also being installed in this area. He said they were monitoring all these works. This city needs roads, underpasses and flyovers and parks and playgrounds, the mayor added.
Akhtar said: “Our problems are common and we stand united and Insha Allah these problems will be solved. Citizens cannot be made satisfied without solving the water and sewerage problems in the city. Sewerage connection from factories and houses must be removed from storm-water drains or these storm-water drains can be overflowed during monsoon rains and can cause immense trouble to citizens. Cleaning of drains will be completed before rains.”
Mayor said sewerage system was also developed to provide some relief to the people of this area. Union council chairman Shahabuddin and others also spoke on this occasion.
