Rao Anwar to be facilitated with B class status in jail

KARACHI: The anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday approved disgraced Senior Superintendent police (SSP) Rao Anwar’s plea to be provided with B-class facilities in prison.

Anwar along with his subordinates is being tried in court for the extrajudicial killing of 27-year-old shopkeeper and aspiring model from Waziristan, Naqeebullah Mehsud, among three others in a staged encounter.

The ATC further informed Naqeebullah’s father, Khan Muhammad, that the petition against the declaration of Anwar’s house as sub-jail was being looked into at the Sindh High Court (SHC) and adjourned the hearing until June 14 while advising him to wait for the verdict.

 

The petitiion which in the SHC, seeks a response from Home Secretary Shahid Pervez, who issued the notification permitting the former SSP to serve the prison term at his home.

However, the home secretary has asked for time in order to draft a written response. The next hearing pf the SHC would be held on June 20.
