A complaint regarding the performance of directorate of health and OTC (over-the-counter) was received by Transparency, said a letter written to Secretary NHS Naveed Kamran Baloch.
The alternative system of medical treatment has been regulated for the first time in Pakistan with regular assessments required by the authorities. Zia Perwez, a former Supreme Court judge had written the letter which stated that four directors had been changed in Drap since 2014 resulting in non-uniform policies and unstable leadership.
“Approximately 30-40 thousand applications are pending for enlistment. There has been a drastic drop in export business due to the unnecessary delay in issuance of no-objection and free sales certificates,” read the letter.
The letter stated that certain “blue eyed manufacturers and importers” had been allowed to create a monopoly in the market.
NHS Sajid Shah said that the allegations in the letter were baseless with certain companies using Transparency International- Pakistan for their own ends.
He acknowledged that there were problems in 2013 but said that they had been resolved in the last four years.
“We cannot allow any company to manufacture medicines without any check because it can compromise on the life and health of citizens. Things have improved and even the chief justice of Pakistan has observed that Drap is moving in a right direction,” he said.
