GILGIT: The Gilgit Airport has been closed for all flights after an air traffic controller fell sick and was advised rest by the doctors, a representative of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said on Saturday.

According to a CAA spokesperson, Yasir Iqbal, the only traffic controller at the airport, has called in sick. Iqbal has requested a temporary respite as doctors have recommended him a two-day rest, declaring that he is not fit for duty at the moment.

“The Gilgit Airport will remain closed during Sunday,” he confirmed.

However, other reports in the media claimed that it is an, in fact, a result of the dispute between the CAA and Airport Security Force (ASF).

Reports said Iqbal was harassed by some officials after which he remained absent from the duty.
