LAHORE: Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) is still mired with unrest and the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the federal education ministry and the chancellor’s office continue to be unmoved.

The vice-chancellor (VC) has not been able to step into his office on campus because the Academic Staff Association (ASA) did not let him enter.

A university official said, “This is a matter of shame now that the country’s number one university is being run from home and why are the HEC, the education ministry and the presidency continue to be silent spectators?”

The official added that action should be taken against whoever is wrong, whether the VC or the ASA.

ASA General Secretary Dr Sohail Yousaf claimed that VC Dr Javed Ashraf had violated the established terms-of-reference (TORs).

VC Ashraf issued show cause notices to 22 faculty members, according to ASA President Dr Aqeel Bokhari.

Bokhari added, “We reject these notices and consider it a vindictive move.”

“Dr Ashraf is not a competent authority now and he cannot issue show cause notices,” the ASA president also said.
