Caretaker PM chairs 25th NSC session to discuss upcoming FATF meeting

ISLAMABAD: The 25th National Security Committee (NSC) session took place under the leadership of caretaker Prime Minister Justice (r) Nasirul Mulk on Friday to discuss the country’s general security situation.

The meeting hosted at the Prime Minister (PM) House in Islamabad was attended the country’s top civilian and military leadership, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan.

Interim Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar briefed the participants regarding the preparations made for the next Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meeting, highlighting the legal and administrative measures taken.

Participants of the NSC expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by Pakistan to meet FATF requirements.

“The committee directed that the progress is shared with the FATF Secretariat in the upcoming meeting,” said a press release, adding that it would do whatever necessary to aid the anti-money laundering task force “in achieving common goals and shared objectives”.

According to a statement released earlier, the PM and United States (US) vice president had “agreed upon the importance of strengthening bilateral relations as well as pursuing the common objective of achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan”.
