LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recently chose Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi as the Punjab interim chief minister (CM) but who is he?
We collected facts about his life to familiarize you with the new Punjab interim CM.
Qualifications:
Rizvi completed a BA honours from University of the Punjab followed by an MA in political science from the same university and scored a first division. He then went to the University of Leeds to pursue an Mphil degree and his main interests were political sociology, comparative government and South Asia. Later, he got admission in the coveted ivy league University of Pennsylvania and pursued another MA in International Relations and Comparative Politics, following which he pursued a doctoral degree from the same university.
Rizvi was a post-doctoral fellow at the arms control, disarmament and international security program at the University of Illinois.
Presidential Award:
Rizvi was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2010.
Work:
Rizvi is presently a professor emeritus at his alma matter, the University of the Punjab and appears on private media outlets as a political and security analyst.
Additionally, Rizvi has served on several editorial boards such as on the boards of South Asian Journal, IPRI, Defence Journal and Journal of International Affairs.
Published work:
Rizvi is also a renowned author and has published several books including Military, State and Society in Pakistan, The Military and Politics in Pakistan and Pakistan and the Geostrategic Environment.
