Two policemen among three martyred in Lower Dir blast

LOWER DIR: An explosion targeting a police van on patrol in Lower Dir on Thursday claimed the lives of a station house officer (SHO), a police constable and another civilian.

According to media reports, a police team was on its way to carry out an investigation of the killing of a village defence council member when their vehicle was targeted in the Maidan area of Lower Dir. SHO Bakhat Munir, constable Irfan and the civilian, identified as Fazal Hussain, were martyred in the attack while constable Hazrat Said and Constable Asad Iqbal were injured.

The blast, which took place in Maidan area, was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Security officials and rescue teams reached the site of the explosion.

The wounded officials were taken to nearby Lal Qilla Hospital after which a search operation in the area is launched.

Following the incident, political leaders including the Caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk condemned the act of violence and offered condolences to the bereaved families.
