ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a petition seeking the removal of sitting National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal.
The petition, filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Noor Muhammad Awan, sought removal of the NAB chief for “levelling allegations of money laundering against Nawaz Sharif”.
The petitioner requested the top court to remove anti-corruption watchdog chief under Article 184(3) of the Constitution for “damaging the reputation of a political leader without any cogent material and causing reckless loss to the institution as he could not hold office due to partiality and unable to work with fairness”.
The petition reads that politicians generally level baseless allegations against their rivals to secure their political goals and motives. “The removal [of NAB chairman] is inevitable to meet the ends of justice,” it added.
Hearing the petition in-chamber, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar maintained the objections raised by the Registrar Office.
