We all remember the crazy version of ‘Joker’ played by Jared Leto in the 2016 Warner Bros movie Suicide Squad.
If news might be true, it was reported that the studio is looking to expand Jared’s portrayal of Joker and are all set to make a solo ‘Joker’ movie sometime soon.
A source told Variety that Leto is to star in the new standalone film and be an executive producer for the project as well. It looks like this could just be the beginning of the further Suicide Squad spin-offs.
The plot details have not been released yet and this will mark the second Joker film that DC is reportedly developing. Furthermore, Leto’s depiction of the Joker was almost a glorified cameo but there was some confusion last year when Warner Bros. and DC revealed that they were making a Joker original story, separate from his portrayal of the character.
This film will star Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker and seems to be the first of many origin movies from DC which would allow multiple actors and multiple versions of the same character without any overlap.
However, the studio emphasised that Suicide Squad would not be the last time we saw Jared Leto’s Joker. Even before the release of Suicide Squad in 2016, Warner Bros had a Harley Quinn spin-off starring Margot Robbie in development.
There are no details about when the new movie would go into production, as Leto and the studio will now search for a writer. It’s also unknown if this film would shoot before or after the previously announced sequel to “Suicide Squad,” which is believed to go into production sometime next year.
Warner Bros is working on three other DC films: Aquaman set for release in December 2018 and Shazam! and Wonder Woman 2 for 2019.
