KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto on Thursday submitted their nomination papers to contest the upcoming general elections from different constituencies of Karachi.

Khan filed his nomination papers to contest elections from Karachi’s NA-243 constituency while Bilawal, on the other hand, is set to step in the electoral politics for the first time in NA-246 Karachi South (Lyari).

PTI leader Asad Umar said that Khan would contest the elections from four to five different constituencies across the country.

NA-243 (Karachi East-II) is a newly-created a constituency for the National Assembly of Pakistan. It mainly comprises the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Subdivision, and census charge 12 and 13 of Jamshed Quarters. The constituency was created in the 2018 delimitation from areas of old NA-252 and the section of Gulshan-e-Iqbal in NA-253.

Bilawal, on the other hand, said while talking to the media that PPP will take forward Benazir Bhutto’s vision and it will be a great source of happiness for him to serve the Pakistani nation.

He said that now he is stepping into parliamentary politics. “Having a Bhutto in mainstream politics will strengthen Pakistan’s defence,” Bilawal said.

“Only Bhutto can defend democracy,” said the PPP chairman.
