Govt likely to announce five Eid holidays: report

ISLAMABAD: The federal government is likely to announce five holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr that will commence from June 14, media reports said on Thursday.

According to a summary prepared by the Interior Ministry which is yet to be approved, Eid holidays will be observed from June 14 (Thursday) to June 18 (Monday) in the country.

However, the said notification was declared as fake and unofficial. The original notification of the Interior Ministry on Friday approved a four-day holiday in connection with Eidul Fitr.

Eid holidays will start from June 15 (Friday) to June 18 (Monday).

Last year, the government had announced only three holidays for the Eid-ul-Fitr.

On Wednesday, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that there are visible chances of the Eid moon being sighted on June 15, Friday.

According to the Met Office, there are fewer chances of the moon being sighted on June 14 (Thursday) with a chance of Eid-ul -Fitr being celebrated on June 16 (Saturday) across Pakistan.

In Pakistan, the holy month of Ramzan began on May 17 (Thursday). The Islamic month will comprise 30 days if the Eid is celebrated on June 16.

The earlier version of the story highlighted the chances of five Eid holidays. It was later refuted by the Interior Minister which announced four-day holidays for Eidul Fitr
