Govt asked to put in efforts for preservation of heritage sites

ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary panel on Tuesday suggested that necessary steps should be taken to preserve the heritage sites and the government should put in efforts to have them recognised nationally and internationally.

The meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage was chaired by Senator Faisal Javed Khan at the Parliament House.

According to a local media report, it stated that the government should take steps to preserve the neglected sites. Moreover, separate national and international campaigns should be launched to highlight the significance of national heritage and the cultural profile of the country.

The committee also proposed that the National Book Foundation and other concerned directorates take steps to revive and promote reading and writing culture and make books accessible in all parts of the country.

The Senate body suggested that bookshelves should be arranged in all petrol pumps.
