PEMRA takes notice against media channels for violating code of conduct

ISLAMABAD: PEMRA’s council of complaints (CoC) on Tuesday took notice of derogatory language used against lawyers’ community in a TV programme “Khabardar” aired on Express News, and warned the channel to observe the laws and code of conduct the license in letter and spirit.

The media watchdog took notice of the incident on the complaint filed by Asad Naeem.

In another complaint lodged against 7 News channel by Public Affairs and Communications Director Fahad Qadir on behalf of Coca-Cola for airing false and defamatory content against Coca-Cola company’s water brand “DASANI” in its programme “Capital Front”, the CoC adjourned the matter with the direction not to air any content pertaining to the subject on the channel as well as on the social media until the matter is decided by the council.

The council also heard the complaint of Medical Officer Dr Mahmoona Kausar from BHU Kot Qazi, Tehsil Lalian, Chiniot against City Media Group for targeting her professional career, and dismissed the matter as the complaint was against the unlicensed and unauthorised channel and PEMRA had already initiated a campaign to put off-air all such illegal and unlicensed channels throughout the country.

The meeting was presided over by Iftikhar Ahmad Tarar while other members included Dr Sughra Sadaf, Dr Lubna Zaheer, Dr Mubashir Nadeem, Fauzia Viqar, Fariha Shahid and Ayesha Manzoor Wattoo.
