Despite being banned in the country, Bollywood film Veere Di Wedding has been the talk of the town after a video of lead actor Swara Bhasker surfaced on social media in which she is heard bashing the country and referring to it as a “failing state.”
While none of the other actors in the movie including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Shikha Talsania have commented on the matter, Swara after much debate came forward and commented that she is perfectly “okay” being the enemy as long as brings both the nations together.
To a tweet which read, “Indians and Pakistanis. Divided by history, pain, sociopolitical realities, religion, terrorism. United by hating on Swara,” Swara replied, “Dushman ka dushman dost!!! I’m totally okay with being the dushman in this case if it brings some dosti to us bickering neighbours. Peace and love guys!”

In another tweet, she wrote, “Looks like Indo-Pak peace is on the horizon!”

The actor then last tweeted that matters of the government of a country and its people are distinct, and her love for Pakistan remains unchanged.
“There should we a distinction between States/Govts of a country & the people of that country. My regard for & goodwill towards the people of Pakistan remains unchanged. Some of my closest friends are Pakistani. Lahore remains one of my soul cities.”

Earlier, while talking about the ban on Veere Di Wedding in Pakistan, Bhaskar had said, “For some reason, I have to keep answering for that. I don’t know why people think I’m a spokesperson for the Pakistani government. What do you expect from a state that’s run by Sharia Laws?”
“They’re a nonsecular state. I’m not surprised at all. Why should we hold up Pakistan, which is a failing state — I don’t understand why we keep taking pleasure and feeling a sense of self-worth from all the silly things that happen in Pakistan. Apologies to all my Pakistani friends right now. Rest assured, Pakistanis have way worse vocabulary than we do. I know,” she added.
Bhasker’s comments received a lot of backlash and several Pakistani celebrities including Urwa Hocane, Gohar Rasheed, Mehwish Hayat and Armeena Khan took to social media to express their anger and disbelief at her comments.
Veere Di Wedding was banned in Pakistan for containing objectionable content and vulgar language.
